Why We Love Chocolate Covered Frozen Bananas

  1. Health Benefits: Bananas are packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Add a layer of dark chocolate, which is rich in antioxidants, and you’ve got a winning combination.
  2. Crunch Meets Creamy: The contrast between the crisp dark chocolate coating and the icy banana inside is pure magic. It’s like a mini ice cream bar without the guilt.
  3. Kid-Friendly: Little ones adore these treats. They’re perfect for satisfying sweet cravings without resorting to overly sugary options.

These chocolate covered frozen bananas are delicious and very easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas

  • 3/4 cup of dark chocolate chips (can use semisweet)

  • 2 tablespoons of avocado oil (or other neutral tasting oil)

  • Popsicle sticks

  • Toppings: chopped nuts, shredded coconut, sea salt, and/or sprinkles (use chopped nuts, sea salt, and/or shredded coconut for a healthier version)

Directions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Peel the bananas and cut them in half (or thirds if using very large bananas). Insert a popsicle stick in the center of one cut end.
  • Place the bananas on the baking sheet with space between them and freeze for approximately 4 hours.
  • Shortly before taking the bananas out of the freezer, melt the chocolate with oil (see noted below).
  • Hold each banana over the bowl of melted chocolate and pour the chocolate over the banana while turning it. Immediately sprinkle the chocolate-covered banana with your toppings.
  • Freeze until the chocolate sets (30-40 minutes).
  • Serve or keep frozen in a container for several days.

Notes

  • Use the “double boiler” method for smooth, consistent results. If using the microwave, melt the chocolate in short intervals, stirring in between.
